Analysis A
Case #4822
2015 BMW 328i · 87k mi · 6L80 / A750E
Pre-drive shudder hypothesis: Valve body pressure drop, not torque converter.
Exposing transparent AI evidence:
• Inputs: DTC P0751, shudder complaint.
• Evidence: TCC trace clean; matches 3 prior N20 cases.
• Missing: Road-test scanner data.
• Gate: Decoded VIN check passed.
  • Knowledge Tier 2 · DTC symptom mapping
  • Staged Parts Packet · Sonnax sleeve kit
  • Pending Confirmation · Explicit human signoff

The honest truth

A shop is a relay race, not a spreadsheet.

Six people hand off the same car over five days. Generic shop software flattens that into a ticket. Then you find out on Friday why the Tacoma's still sitting.

  • 01Estimate sent Tuesday — customer hasn't approvedBlocked · 53h
  • 02ZF sleeve ordered Monday — ETA slipped twiceParts · ETA +2d
  • 03QC found pan gasket leak — back to repairRework

The system

Six phases. One screen. Zero dropped balls.

Every case moves through the same six stages. Locomotion OS makes each one a living object—not a line on a ticket—so nothing quietly waits three days for someone to notice.

01 · Intake & VIN Gate

Intelligent complaint capture, gated by VIN.

Decoded VIN is a hard gate for Analysis A, diagnosis case commit, and work order creation. Locomotion OS transcribes voice or manual intakes instantly, decodes the VIN, pulls vehicle history, and secures exact transmission details.

  • Phone transcription with technician-grade summarization — no more hand-scribbled shop notes.
  • Hard VIN gate decode — ensures transmission family (e.g. 6L80, 10L80, A750E) is perfectly identified before diagnostics begin.
  • Lazy Tekmetric adoption — adopt active Tekmetric work orders in a single click via POST /api/work-orders/:id/diagnosis-case.

02 · Analysis A & B

Transparent, evidence-based diagnostic intelligence.

No black-box recommendations. Locomotion OS runs Analysis A (pre-drive hypothesis) and Analysis B (revised post-drive diagnosis), exposing exact inputs used, supporting evidence, missing evidence, and confidence rationale. Final conclusions require explicit human confirmation.

  • Advisory AI transparency — exposes inputs used, supporting evidence, and confidence rationale.
  • Double-stage diagnostic workflow — pre-drive Analysis A + test drive scanner captures + post-drive Analysis B.
  • Explicit human confirmation — mandatory signoff for final conclusions, parts packets, and work assignments.

03 · Staged Parts Packets

Parts status, with active margin locking.

Track parts from any vendor on a single board, staged as Confirmed, Likely, or Optional. Margin locking at approval ensures supplier price drops become your shop margin, not discount leakage.

  • Three-tier staging — Confirmed parts, Likely parts, and Optional parts mapped directly to verified symptoms.
  • Active margin locking — locks price margins at estimate approval so supplier discounts go to your bottom line.
  • Coordinated ETA tracking — reshuffles bay schedules and notifies advisors the minute backorders arrive.

04 · Quality Verification Gate

Closeout and delivery, gated by verification.

No vehicle leaves with unverified quality. Invoicing, customer portal payments, and delivery closeout are hard-gated. A passing post-repair verification result—comprising a standard test drive session and scanner recheck—is mandatory to close the case.

  • Strict closeout gate — physically blocks closeout and invoicing until a passing verification result is logged.
  • Verification details — records post-repair road test mileage, scanner codes, and advisor sign-off.
  • Comeback prevention — diagnostics are integrated with the knowledge matrix to catch repeat failures before the car leaves.

Questions · answered

The things every shop owner asks.

Can I keep using Tekmetric as my main ledger? How does the sync work?

Yes, absolutely. Tekmetric sync is additive and protected: we never mutate your active diagnosis cases during hot sync. Active work orders enter the Locomotion OS diagnostic workflow through lazy adoption via a simple POST /api/work-orders/:id/diagnosis-case. This allows your advisors to keep using Tekmetric for operational and financial logging while using Locomotion OS as your shop's diagnostic brain.

Why is a decoded VIN required before diagnostics or work orders are created? Can it be bypassed?

A decoded VIN is a hard gate for Locoreal-managed Analysis A, committing a diagnosis case, and creating work orders. This ensures we identify the exact vehicle specifications and transmission family (e.g. 6L80 vs 8L90) so we never stage the wrong parts or estimate labor incorrectly. In emergencies, authorized roles can record a scan_vin override in gate_overrides to bypass this check temporarily.

Is the advisory AI going to make final decisions on parts and assignments?

Never. We believe in absolute AI transparency. Every pre-drive Analysis A or revised Analysis B exposes the exact inputs used, supporting evidence, missing evidence, and our confidence rationale. Final conclusions, parts decisions, technician assignments, and verification results always require explicit human confirmation. The AI serves as a powerful advisory assistant, not a replacement for human judgment.

How does the post-repair Quality Verification gate work?

To secure your shop's gross margins and eliminate comebacks, post-repair verification is a hard gate that blocks invoicing, customer portal payments, and delivery closeout. A passing result—requiring a verified test drive and scanner code recheck—must be recorded to unlock the final closeout gate and close the work order.

Does it work with QuickBooks and our accountant?

Yes — QuickBooks Online sync is built in: completed ROs post with parts, labor, and tax categorized for your accountant. As an early-access product, we validate the category mapping with your accountant during onboarding.

Do you support offline use on the shop floor?

Locomotion OS is engineered for bad shop-floor Wi-Fi: the advisor dashboard keeps working through connection drops and syncs when you reconnect. Shop floor tablets cache the active bay state so a dropped connection doesn't stop a repair.
